Information for ESSENCE study participants

In November 2021, Ada Health’s symptom assessment and care navigation technology was made available in Portuguese and integrated into the patient portal of CUF, a prominent healthcare network in Portugal.

In partnership, CUF and Ada Health are undertaking a research study to evaluate the impact of this technology on clinical workflows and individual healthcare choices. The study is called ‘ESSENCE’ - which stands for ‘E-health Self Symptom assEssmeNt as a front door and facilitator of CarE’ and begins in November 2023.

The ESSENCE study aims to survey 1,000 patients who have completed an Ada symptom assessment from within CUF’s ‘My CUF’ mobile app. The effect of Ada on patients' health-seeking behaviour will be evaluated using this data. Subsequently, a number of the patients' consulting physicians will be invited to complete a survey to assess their perceptions of the appropriateness of Ada Health’s symptom assessment and investigate any impact of the assessment on physician consultation efficiency.
